The book cover depicts two men. The man on the left is Hermes Trismegistus, and the man on the right is Ramon Llull. Both are depicted as alchemists. These illustrations are taken from Le Moyen Âge et la Renaissance (volume 2, chapter 2), a 19th century French book full of woodblock illustrations. The back cover of SICP says:
